What is merger?

A merger, a type of corporate action, occurs when two or more companies combine to form a new entity, or one company acquires another, potentially leading to changes in ownership and operations. 

Shareholders of the companies involved in a merger or acquisition may receive shares in the new or acquiring company, or cash, depending on the terms of the transaction.
